Monica Maxfield has spent most of her life surrounded by creativity, humor, and animals, which probably explains a lot about the stories she enjoys telling.

She began drawing at a very young age. Like many artists, some of those early drawings happened on places that weren’t exactly meant to be used as sketchpads. Over time drawing became her favorite way to communicate ideas and entertain people around her.

Growing up meant moving from school to school quite often, which could have been difficult. Fortunately, drawing had a funny way of helping people connect. Classmates frequently asked her to illustrate things for projects, and that simple request slowly turned into something bigger.

Animals were always a huge part of her life as well. Dogs, cats, horses, birds, reptiles, and many others filled her childhood with different personalities and stories waiting to happen.

Throughout her adult life, Monica has worked in many different fields, from teaching and hospitality to healthcare and freelance creative work. Despite those different roles, storytelling and illustration always remained close to her heart.

Eventually, those interests combined to create the playful and unusual world of Commander Cow and Friends.
